The legend came back. Today he sees the coming of Master of the Saikyo Style, Dan Hibiki, who makes his return to Street Fighter franchise as the first character of SFVfifth and final season of content. Capcom launched a launch trailer to remind the world, as if the world needed a reminder, of Hibiki’s incredible martial arts skills.
In related news, SFV players who have been fortunate enough to enter the ring with Dan are already discovering some interesting secrets. As noted by @discovigilante, it seems that Hibiki-san is bringing his love of teasing back to the ring like never before, and will fire up a pose and verbal ostentation whenever a player plays repeatedly in a crouch – conveniently the disrespectful “T-Bag” maneuver. It seems that, in true Saikyo style, Dan’s confident players are unlikely to ever have STFU, but honestly, Hibiki-san wouldn’t take it any other way.
Along with Dan’s arrival, Season 5 adds a new balance update, as well as the addition of the new “V-Shift” mechanic. At the cost of a V-Gauge bar, fighters will now be able to perform an invincible backdash, useful for relieving pressure from the blocking rope or bait out of the opponent’s special. This new technique should offer a little more in the way of defensive options, something that the heavy offensive fighter has always lacked.
Season V will continue throughout 2021, adding DLC characters Rose, Oro, Rival Schools‘Akira, and a fifth character whose identity has not yet been revealed. Also on the list is the strange shape-shifting blob known as Eleven, which takes on the appearance and movement of a SFV character for each round, testing the skills of any Street Fighter V specialist.
