Street Fighter Alpha 2 code discovered to unlock Shin Akuma

A programmer who goes by the name of Gizaha on the Zeldix forums discovered a cheat code to unlock hidden boss Shin Akuma as a playable character in the Super Nintendo version of Street Fighter Alpha 2. Street Fighter Alpha 2 released in 1996 and was the first game to contain the Shin Akuma form of the demonic character Akuma.

The code, which was verified by EventHub reporter Dakota Hills, requires the player to complete Street Fighter Alpha 2Arcade mode with a new high score. At this point, they need to enter the initials KAJ, return to the title screen and hold down the L, X, Y and Start buttons on a controller in the second player’s slot while the first player’s controller is used to navigate to the game’s mode versus. At this point, any player can use the newly unlocked Shin Akuma by holding the Start button while selecting Akuma. If everything is done correctly, Akuma’s gi will turn purple.

Gizaha says the method was discovered while they tried to reverse engineer the game for almost 25 years.

Akuma can be unlocked using several methods over Street Fighter’s long legacy. The character even crossed over to other franchises like Tekken. As for the Shin Akuma form in particular, there are a variety of ways to unlock the character.

O Street Fighter Alpha series is included in the Street Fighter 30º Anniversary Collection for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
