Strange New Worlds starts production with an initial video

All systems are up and running Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as the last live action series on Star Trek the franchise skyrockets and goes into production at Paramount +.

The news was announced in a video of the series starring Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck, as well as their five new castmates: Babs Olusanmokun (Black mirror), Christina Chong (Doctor who), Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush (Playing to keep), and Melissa Navia (New Amsterdam)

The video (below) starts with a familiar chorus, as each actor recites a part of the iconic introductory speech that started each episode of the original Star Trek series, before Peck confirmed that production is “officially underway”, with Mount adding a little later: “We started. We’re in Toronto. We’re in production.”

Strange new worlds will focus on the adventures of Captain Pike (Monte), his second in command Number One (Romijn) and science officer Spock (Peck) while traveling on board the USS Enterprise in the decade prior to the events of The Original Series, in the era before James T. Kirk served as captain at the helm. The trio will be replaying the roles that everyone played during the second season of Star Trek: Discovery, as the program returns to the roots of the franchise with episodic adventures that lead them to visit strange new worlds new and unknown planets, with longer emotional arcs for the characters that extend throughout the season.

Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers will be acting as co-showrunners for the series, as well as executive co-producers along with Jenny Lumet.

Strange new worlds joins an already robust line of Trek programs including Discovery and Picardas well as animated series Lower Decks and Prodigy.

No release date has been set for the series, but it will be broadcast on Paramount +.
