Strange New Worlds begins production

Paramount +, ViacomCBS ‘new streaming service, announced today that five new cast members have joined the next Original Series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Babs Olusanmokun (Black mirror, Dune), Christina Chong (Tom and Jerry, Black mirror), Celia Rose Gooding (Toothed pill), Jess Bush (Skinford, Les Norton), and Melissa Navia (Dietland, Billion) will join as regulars in the series. A teaser video featuring the cast of the series was also released today, announcing that production of the series is officially underway in Toronto, Canada.

Babs OlusanmokunNotable television credits include his roles on Netflix’s Black mirror, Marvel’s The defenders, HBO’s Emmy-winning miniseries The night of and the remake of the 2016 history miniseries Roots. His film credits include the long-awaited future Dune and Wrath of Man.

Christina Chong can currently be seen in the live-action adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Tom and Jerry and at CW’s Bullet proof. Other Chong television credits include Black Mirror, Doctor Whofrom the BBC Sick Behavior, ABC’s mini-series of events Of kings and prophets, the BBC’s hit series Duty line, SYFY’s Domain, Halo: Dusk and the Fox mini-series of events 24: Live another day. Film credits include Christmas night, alongside Patrick Stewart, and Johnny English: Reborn.

Celia Rose Gooding starred as Frankie Healy in Toothed pill, a musical inspired by Alanis Morissette’s award-winning album, until Broadway closed in 2020, and received a Tony nomination in 2020 for Best Actress in a Musical for his work. Previous roles in the theater also include Urinetown and Fame.

Jess Bush starred as Helen in the independent film Skinford and appeared in the role of Kendall’s recurring guest on the Channel 10 series Playing to keep. Bush also played the role of Bella in the Australian series Halifax – Retribution. In addition, Bush was a guest star on the ABC series Les Norton opposite Rebel Wilson and David Wenham.

Melissa NaviaRecent television credits include a recurring role in AMC’s critically acclaimed series Dietland and guest roles at Showtime’s Billion and Homeland. In March 2020, she made her off-Broadway debut in the much-applauded Pack of sticks at the INTAR Theater.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is based on the years when Captain Christopher Pike commanded the USS Enterprise. The series will feature fan favorites from the second season of Star Trek: Discovery, Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk embarked on the USS Enterprise, while exploring new worlds around the galaxy.

The series premiere was written by Akiva Goldsman with the story of Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers act as co-showrunners, with Goldsman directing the debut episode. Goldsman, Kurtzman and Lumet will serve as executive producers, in addition to Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper and Davy Perez will serve as executive co-producers. Akiva Goldsman remains an executive producer and a key part of the creative team in Star Trek: Picard also.
