Strange New Worlds’ adds five to cast when production begins – deadline

Paramount + has completed the cast of its new original series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds while production officially begins in Toronto.

Babs Olusanmokun (Black Mirror, Dune), Christina Chong (Tom and Jerry, Black Mirror), Celia Rose Gooding (Toothed pill), Jess Bush (Skinford, Les Norton) and Melissa Navia (Dietland, billions) are defined as regulars in the series based on the years Captain Christopher Pike ran the USS Enterprise. They teamed up with Ethan Peck, Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn, who will reprise their roles from season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery.

‘debut episode is written by Star Trek: Picard EP Akiva Goldsman of a story that the Oscar winner wrote with Kurtzman and his colleague EP Jenny Lumet. Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers act as co-showrunners, with Goldsman directing the debut episode.

Produced by CBS Studios, Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will follow Captain Pike (Monte), Science Officer Spock (Peck) and Number One (Romijn) in the years before Captain Kirk embarked on the USS Enterprise, while exploring new worlds around the galaxy.

Goldsman, Kurtzman and Lumet will serve as executive producers with Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper and Davy Perez will serve as executive co-producers. Goldsman remains an executive producer and a key part of the creative team in Star Trek: Picard also.

Olusanmokun’s notable television credits include Netflix Black mirror, Marvel’s The Defenders, HBO Emmy Winning Miniseries The night of and history Roots remake of the miniseries. It will be seen on the big screen in the next Dune and Wrath of Man.

Chong can currently be seen in Hanna Barbera’s live-action adaptation Tom and Jerry and at CW’s Bullet proof. Other Chong television credits include Black Mirror, Doctor Whofrom the BBC Sick Behavior and ABC miniseries of events Of kings and prophets, among others. Film credits include Christmas night, opposite Patrick Stewart, and Johnny English: Reborn.

Gooding starred as Frankie Healy in Toothed pill, a musical inspired by Alanis Morissette’s award-winning album, until Broadway closed in 2020, and received a Tony nomination in 2020 for Best Actress in a Musical for his work. Previous roles in the theater also include Urinetown and Fame.

Bush starred as Helen in the independent film Skinford and reappeared as Kendall in the Channel 10 series Playing to keep. Bush also appeared in the Australian series Halifax – Retribution and debuted as a guest on ABC Les Norton opposite Rebel Wilson and David Wenham.

Navia’s recent television credits include a recurring role on AMC Dietland and guest roles on Showtime’s Billions and Homeland. In March 2020, she made her off-Broadway debut at the touted Pack of sticks at the INTAR Theater.
