Sahady, the legal records show, is listed as vice president of “Super Happy Fun America”, the group behind the Straight Pride Parade.
Ianni is a member of the Natick Town Meeting who sparked controversy locally and online after she was photographed inside the Capitol, prompting hundreds of people to sign a petition asking for her expulsion. City officials say they have no legal mechanism in place to expel her from the General Meeting.
A lawyer for Sahady declined to comment, while a lawyer listed for Ianni did not immediately return an email asking for comment.
“The FBI would like to thank the Malden and Natick police departments for their help this morning,” said the FBI.
Sahady and Ianni are due to make their first appearances in Boston’s federal court on Tuesday. It was not clear when they would appear in Washington.
On Tuesday, the United States’ interim attorney general, Jeffrey A. Rosen, said in a statement that the Justice Department “has already filed charges against more than 100 individuals and has investigations underway on many others.”
The January 6 riot began after many in the crowd heard President Trump at a rally urging his supporters to “fight like hell” and walk to the Capitol in an effort to interrupt Biden’s victory certification, a process that was interrupted for hours amid chaos, but ended at the beginning of January 7th.
Sahady and Ianni are not the only New England residents facing riot-related charges.
Thomas R. Gallagher, 61, of New Hampshire, and David L. Ross, 33, of Pittsfield, were also previously arrested for alleged similar crimes.
The lawsuits against Sahady and Ianni provided more information on Tuesday about their alleged crimes on Capitol Hill.
Sahady, the suit said, tweeted on December 20 that “it’s important that millions of Americans show up” in DC on January 6 “to support legitimate President Donald Trump and show Democrats what they will face if they keep trying to steal the presidency. . ”
He later tweeted on December 31 that “we have 7 buses coming,” a message followed by a post on January 4 that read, “January 6 – Washington, DC – Begins,” said the statement.
Authorities said another tweet sent on December 29 from the Super Happy Fun America Twitter feed said, “SHFA will be in DC again on January 6 to go wild.”
And Sahady, said the deposition, was photographed next to another person inside the Capitol “during the invasion. The photograph appeared on various public forums, such as Twitter, while individuals were successfully working to identify SAHADY through other photos and information. ”
MetroWest Daily News reported the identification on January 11, the document said.
“Based on my training and personal experience, I know that this photo was taken inside the Capitol building based on the background and, specifically, the decorative elements on the walls behind SAHADY,” said the statement.
Ianni, the legal records show, is also “actively involved” in Super Happy Fun America.
She also “organized Super Happy Fun America buses to transport individuals to Washington, DC for the January 6, 2021 event,” said a separate statement. “Specifically, IANNI spoke to a local news station and was interviewed for a public article stating that she was the ‘main organizer of the 11 buses that left Massachusetts on Tuesday for the trip to Washington.’ The article continues that “[a]about 300 members of Super Happy Fun America packed six of the buses. ‘”
The deposition also noted that Ianni declined to comment when reporters asked if she had entered the Capitol during the riot.
It turns out that she did, according to court records.
“One of these photos [taken during the riot] it shows who I know how to be, IANNI and Known Person 1 standing together on Capitol Hill during the invasion, ”said the statement. “The photograph appeared on several public forums while individuals were successfully working to identify IANNI through other images and information.”
Federal officials said that “this photo was taken inside the Capitol building based on the background and, specifically, the decorative elements on the walls behind IANNI, who was dressed in“ a blue jacket with a raised fist ”in the photo.
According to legal records, there is a probable cause for believing that Ianni and Sahady violate federal law that prohibits people from intentionally entering or staying in “any restricted building or land without legal authority to do so; and (2) knowingly and with the intention of preventing or interrupting the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions, engaging in disorderly or disturbing conduct in, or in the vicinity of, any restricted building or land when, or in a manner that , such conduct, in fact, prevents or disrupts the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions; or attempts or conspires to do so. “
In addition, the case file alleges, there is also a probable cause for believing that the couple has violated federal law that prohibits the pronunciation of “loud, threatening or abusive language, or engaging in disorderly or disturbing conduct anywhere in the Grounds or any part of Capitol Buildings with the intention of preventing, interrupting or disturbing the orderly conduct of a session of Congress or the Chamber of Congress. ”
