Instead of revisiting a story from another game or movie in the series, Infinite darkness will tell its own original story with the two fan favorite characters. To give fans a preview of what’s in store, Netflix has released a full description of the storyline:
In 2006, there were traces of improper access to the president’s secret files found on the White House network. US federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is among the group invited to the White House to investigate the incident, but when the lights suddenly go out, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies. Meanwhile, TerraSave team member Claire Redfield finds a mysterious image drawn by a young man in a country she visited, while providing support to refugees. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to be a victim of viral infection, Claire begins her own investigation. The next morning, Claire visits the White House to request the construction of a wellness center. There, she has a reunion with Leon and takes the opportunity to show him the boy’s drawing. Leon seems to sense some kind of connection between the zombie outbreak at the White House and the strange cartoon, but he tells Claire that there is no relationship and leaves. Over time, these two zombie outbreaks in distant countries lead to events that shake the nation at its core.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will debut in 2021. But Infinite darkness it is not the only Resident Evil series that is coming from Netflix. The streaming service previously announced a live-action series set in the Resident Evil universe that follows members of the Wesker family on two separate timelines.
In fact, 2021 is preparing to be a great year for Resident Evil. Capcom and Constantin Film are making a new live-action film adaptation, this time directed by Johannes Roberts (47 meters below), looking at Kaya Scodelario (Pirates of the Caribbean: dead men tell no stories) like Claire Redfield. The film is scheduled to be released on September 3. Meanwhile, the last game in the series, Resident Evil Village, is scheduled to be released on May 7.
