PHOENIX – The Phoenix Police Department is investigating a shooting at a company near 32nd Street and Indian School Road.
Shortly after 9:00 am on Saturday, police responded to a shopping mall for reports of a shootout.
Police officers at the scene told ABC15 that shots were fired outside Howard’s Ace Hardware store during an assault attempt.
Phoenix police said an employee was trying to stop a thief as they ran out of the store.
A man, who was outside, witnessed the chase and fired a gun. Police said he shot the thief, but missed and hit the employee.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. He said he had serious but not fatal injuries.
The thief left the scene before the police arrived. It is not clear whether he was identified.
The person who fired the shots remained on the scene and is cooperating with the police. It is not clear whether the charges will be brought.
The investigation is still ongoing.
