Stolen motorcycle call leads police to kill a man in South Carolina

CLEMSON, SC (AP) – Police officers in a university town in South Carolina shot and killed a 25-year-old man who drew a gun while talking to him about a stolen motorcycle, officials said.

State officials are investigating the death of Gregory Chandler Metz of Greenville at a Circle K in Clemson at about 1:15 am on Thursday, Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley said.

Two policemen confronted Metz about the stolen motorcycle and they began to struggle, said Clemson Police Chief Jorge Campos in a statement.

While fighting, Metz drew a gun and the police shot him, Campos said.

The chief said the police were uninjured and gave Metz first aid until the paramedics arrived. His statement did not identify the officers.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting.
