The agency said it is working directly with other federal agencies to obtain updated 2021 information on people receiving federal benefits “to ensure that as many people as possible receive automatic and quick payments”.
Commissioner for Social Security Administration Andrew Saul said the agency sent its files to the IRS on Thursday.
The statement came in response to a letter sent earlier this week to the IRS and Social Security by lawmakers, including Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr, D-9th Dist., Who expressed concern that some beneficiaries are still waiting for their payments .
“We were alarmed to learn recently that the majority of Social Security, SSI, RRB (Railroad Retirement Benefits) and VA beneficiaries who are not required to file an income tax return have not yet received their payments and that the IRS is not able to provide an expected schedule for these payments, ”said the letter.
If you have not filed an income tax return and have received Social Security, SSI, Railway Retirement Benefits or VA benefits, and currently receive your payments on a Direct Express card, then your third stimulus payment will be deposited on that same card, the IRS said in updated guidelines on its website.
“The bank information shown in Get My Payment will be a number associated with your Direct Express card and may be a number that you do not recognize,” he said.
For people who do not have direct deposit information filed with the IRS, “the IRS will use federal records of recent payments to or from the government, when available, to make payment as a direct deposit. This helps to expedite payment delivery, ”he said.
If you do not receive a direct deposit, you can receive payment by check or prepaid debit card.
The debit card will come in a white envelope bearing the US Department of the Treasury seal, the IRS said. The card has the name Visa on the front and the issuing bank, MetaBank, NA, on the back.
Paper checks come in a white envelope from the United States Department of the Treasury. For taxpayers who have received tax refunds in the mail, this paper check will be similar, but it will be labeled an “Economic impact payment” in the memo field, the IRS said.
