Steven Yeun receives Oscar nomination for best actor for “Minari”

Glenn Rhee is having the best. Life after death. Ever.

Living Dead former student Steven Yeun got an Oscar nomination on Monday for his performance in Minari. The actor’s nod was historic: Yeun becomes the first Asian-American artist to be recognized in the leading actor category. (See the full list of nominations here.)

Shortly after being killed Living Dead in 2016, Yeun opened up about the professional frustration he experienced during his six-year run in the AMC zombie drama, telling Slate that he “felt beige with Glenn”, adding, “That was a bit of frustration that I could never explain to society in general, to the fans of the show … It’s like: nice guy, trustworthy, supportive, benign – beige. And as a Korean man, I am no beige.”

Yeun was quick to notice that he was “incredibly grateful” for his time in Living Dead. “Did I have a lot of fun on that show? Yes! “He maintained.“ I would not go back on that experience. I made lifelong friendships. I have to learn a lot. it was also due to me, because when I started, all I was trying to do was work within the parameters that they were giving me. And then, with time, I just got over it. ”
