Steve Wojciechowski fired after seven seasons with the Marquette Golden Eagles

Coach Steve Wojciechowski is out of Marquette after seven seasons, the school announced on Friday.

The Golden Eagles finished 13-14 overall and 8-11 in the Big East game last season.

“After a thorough evaluation of our program last week, which included several conversations with Steve, I concluded that now is the right time for a new leader in our historic program,” said Marquette sports director Bill Scholl. “I am confident that our success story and our commitment to the development of young leaders on and off the court will attract the highest caliber of the coach’s talent. I want to thank Steve for his dedication to our student-athletes and for how he represented our men’s basketball program and the university. We wish Steve, Lindsay, Jack and Charlie nothing but the best in the future. “

Wojciechowski went to two NCAA tournaments in his seven seasons with the Golden Eagles, losing in the first round each time. Last season, they reportedly made a third appearance in the NCAA tournament after Markus Howard’s stellar game, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This season, Marquette had notable victories over Wisconsin and Creighton in December, but failed to build the rest of the way. An extension of six losses in seven games in the middle of the Big East game shattered the Golden Eagles’ hopes for the NCAA, despite winning four out of five at the end of the season.

In seven seasons, Wojciechowski was 128-95 overall and 59-68 in the league game.

The school said on Friday it would immediately start a national search for a replacement.
