Steve Sarkisian will be the new coach of the Texas Longhorns football team after the school fired Tom Herman, who still had several years of contract.
Sarkisian’s success and struggles as a coach have been well documented. He had successful stints in Washington and USC before his alcohol problems arose. Several reports detail issues involving the coach and alcohol and their journey to improve.

He talked about his history with alcoholism during his first press conference as a Longhorns coach on Saturday.
“When you went through what I went through in the public eye, I don’t mean you feel humble, but you are. I’m proud of the work I did. When you fight what I fight, you have to work on it every day” , he said, through the Austin American-Statesman.

Since his resignation at USC, Sarkisian has been an offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons and has had two stints in Alabama. This season, he presided over an offense that included Mac Jones, Najee Harris and Devonta Smith and is a national championship victory.

Texas ended the 2020 season with an Alamo Bowl win over Colorado and a 7-3 record. The team never made it to the college football playoff and competed for a national title for the last time in the 2009 season.
