Shane Beamer said he hired an “elite” wide receiver trainer Justin Stepp when he introduced him earlier this week. A native of Columbia, who grew up around the Williams-Brice Stadium, on Stepp’s return home he was impressed by the improvements in the facilities.
All he ever knew is what the program housed in various areas around the Williams-Brice Stadium. What Stepp – someone who calls himself a “relentless” recruiter – has to work as a trainer for Gamecocks wide receivers, he believes there is no reason why Gamecocks are unsuccessful.
“When I first came here, this was the first time I saw this building,” said Stepp in the press room at Long Family Football Operations Center. “I remember when this place was built, being in Arkansas, and seeing the revelation. I was able to watch the players go by and my first immediate reaction was: ‘Dude, it will be impossible to get any guy out of South Carolina now with the facilities as they are.’ The last time I was here, everything was in the finishing zone. “
From the program’s $ 50 million home to the two practice fields behind it and to the Jerri and Steve Spurrier Indoor Practice Facility adjacent to it, Stepp’s office space and working environment at the back of Gamecock Park is “impressive” .

“This place is unbelievable,” said Stepp. “The features here and the functionality of this building, not only for coaches, but for children and players. It’s impressive. You have everything you need. There is no reason why you cannot recruit the best kids in this state and country to play here. The facilities are first class and as good as they are, the team that Coach Beamer put together, I think it is even better than the facilities.
