Steph Curry hits the finish and beats Mike Conley for his second 3-point title

Stephen Curry paved the way for another 3-point title and Domantas Sabonis ensured that the Skills Challenge still belonged to the greats.

Golden State Warriors superstar Curry provided a dramatic preview of his seventh All-Star Game appearance when he sank his last 3-point basket to beat Utah’s Mike Conley for the title on Sunday night. Curry also won 3-point content in 2015.

Conley was in the lead with 27 points before Curry was the last pitcher in the competition. Curry had 26 points before hitting his final corner kick for 28 points and winning.

“I could hear the temperature rise a little bit,” said Curry of the small crowd’s reaction to the State Farm Arena.

“It was an incredible competition,” said Curry. “I’m glad I did that.”

After finishing in second place for the 2020 Skills Challenge winner and also the great man Bam Adebayo of Miami, Sabonis of Indiana returned to win the title.

The 1.80m Sabonis did not miss a 3-point pass or shot in the elimination victory over Julius Randle of the New York Knicks and Luka Doncic of Dallas in the pass test, ball handling and kicking ability. Doncic was left behind for failing his first two passing accuracy tests.

Sabonis defeated Nikola Vucevic, of Orlando, of 2.13 meters, in the dispute of great men for the title of abilities. Each missed two 3-point shots before Sabonis made his third attempt and clenched his fist in victory.

“It was fun,” said Sabonis. “I wanted to go out and make sure I did it this time.”

Curry had 31 points in the first round to lead the contest. Also advanced Jayson Tatum, with 25 points, and Conley, with 28.

Tatum led the final round with 17 points, while hitting just one stroke of the “money ball”. Conley almost doubled his total in the first round and it looked like it could be enough until Curry solidified his reputation as one of the best snipers in NBA history.

The dunk contest was scheduled for the All-Star Game break.
