The Pittsburgh Steelers have now released their first official Super Wild Card Week injury report ahead of Sunday’s home game against the Cleveland Browns and Wednesday’s offer shows that two players failed to train earlier in the day, with two more having limited participation.
Out of the team’s practice on Wednesday were defensive tackle Tyson Alualu (ankle) and internal linebacker Vince Williams (quadriceps). None of the players were mentioned by Steelers coach Mike Tomlin on Tuesday, so we will have to wait and see if one or both Alualu and Williams can practice in some capacity on Thursday. Williams did not play much in the second half of the Steelers Week 17 loss to the Browns.
Wednesday’s limited training for the Steelers was kicker Chris Boswell (groin) and cornerback Steven Nelson (knee). Nelson played the Steelers Week 17 game against the Browns, while Boswell lost the competition because of his groin injury. If Boswell is unable to play again this Sunday against the Browns, the Steelers will likely remove kicker Matthew Wright from the training team again.
The other player in the Steelers’ injury report on Wednesday, safety Terrell Edmunds (shoulder), trained fully earlier in the day. Edmunds, like Boswell, lost the game of Week 17 due to his injury. It was the first NFL game that Edmunds lost since being called up by the Steelers.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is not in the injury report on Wednesday and that means he probably practiced fully. During a normal week, Roethlisberger is usually out on Wednesday. He, however, along with outside linebacker TJ Watt, defensive striker Cameron Heyward and center-back Maurkice Pouncey, were barred from playing in week 17 against the Browns so everyone could rest for the playoffs.
As previously reported, Steelers within linebacker Robert Spillane and point guard Matt Feiler resumed training on Wednesday. Both, however, remained on the Steelers’ Injury / Reserves list on Wednesday night. Both have a chance to be activated on Sunday.
Cornerback Joe Haden, tight end Eric Ebron and external linebacker Cassius Marsh are still on the Steelers Reserve / COVID-19 list on Wednesday night. Haden is expected to miss Sunday’s playoff game against the Browns, while the hope is that Ebron and Marsh will be able to get off the COVID list in the coming days and be available to play on Sunday.
