Steelers resting TJ Watt, Cam Heyward and other regulars against Browns

While Cleveland Browns is dealing with some friction in the squad due to problems with COVID-19, Sunday’s opponent at FirstEnergy Stadium is voluntarily reducing the squad.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Steelers will not have three perennial Pro Bowlers on their schedule in Week 17. Edge rusher TJ Watt, striker Cameron Heyward and central Maurkice Pouncey will join quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the sideline instead of playing against the Browns. All four are healthy enough to play, but will be left out.

The absence of Watt, the favorite for the NFL defensive player of the year, is a major advantage for the Browns’ attack. Cleveland QB Baker Mayfield received several questions about Watt during press conferences this week, and his reverence and respect for the All-Pro came through in his responses.

Cleveland need to win the game to secure a post-season spot. Pittsburgh has already won the AFC North crown and cannot be excused in the wild card round.
