Steelers JuJu Smith-Schuster supports the “Browns are the Browns” comment after the wild card defeat

The Cleveland Browns playoff celebrations on Sunday night centered on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ JuJu Smith-Schuster, triggered by his infamous “Browns are the Browns” remark earlier this week, but the fourth-year receiver seemed to keep those comments even then losing 48-37.

After leading Cleveland in their first divisional round game since 1995, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield returned to the locker room shouting “the Browns are the Browns”.

Once in the locker room, Jarvis Landry scoffed at Smith-Schuster’s popular “Corvette, Corvette” TikTok dance, while the rest of the team treated the song as their unofficial celebration hymn.

Smith-Schuster was chosen by the Browns after becoming a target before the round of the wild card, when he told reporters that he was not concerned about playing against Cleveland.

“I think they are still the same Browns teams that I play every year,” he said at the time. “I think they are gray faces with no name. They have some good players on their team, but at the end of the day, I don’t know. The Browns are the Browns.”

After being proved wrong on Sunday night, Smith-Schuster did not back down on his comments, instead saying that the Browns played a good game.

“I don’t regret saying what I said,” he said during his post-game press conference. “I said ‘the Browns are the Browns.’ They came and played a great game. “

“There were games where you lost some, you won some, and today was not our night,” continued Smith-Schuster. “Hopefully, the same browns will appear against the next opponent, and they will go there and do the same thing they did tonight and have a great game.”

While it may not be the most gracious award speech, the Browns happily move on to the AFC Divisional Round, where they will travel to face the Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday at 3:05 pm Eastern Time.
