Valve unveiled Steam’s “Best of 2020” list, highlighting which were the biggest and most profitable games of 2020 on its PC store.
Does not appear the page sorts games in order, but according to the latest statistics, Entre Nós, Destiny 2and PUBG were among the games with the highest peak concurrent users – all of them accumulated over 200,000 peak players – while Rainbow Six Siege, GTA 5and Monster Hunter World were the highest grossing games of the year on Steam.
In terms of the biggest releases of 2020, the platform lists Crusader Kings 3, Flight Simulator and Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord as the biggest debuts of the year.
The long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 appeared on almost every list, suggesting that it’s one of Steam’s biggest new releases, the most played, and of the best sellers of the year as well.
ICYMI, Valve broke his own record for most concurrent users on its Steam platform just before the holidays, registering 24,776,635 simultaneous users. Although unconfirmed, it is speculated that the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and another increase in the global cases of COVID-19 caused more people to stay at home and jump online than usual.
Steam’s upward trend began in January, when the Chinese began to isolate themselves at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. On February 2, Steam’s previous record of 18,537,490 users – set in January 2018 – was overcome, breaking the existing record by an impressive 300,000 to the peak of 18,801,944 players. It broke several times since then, including a weekend in March that saw numbers exceed 20 million for the first time, and then 22 million just a week later.
As we reported before the holidays, Cyberpunk 2077 is the new most played game on Steam, surpassing names like Dota 2 and CS: GO with more than one million simultaneous players, although it is only for one player.
This not only means that Cyberpunk 2077 outperforms multiplayer giants like Dota 2 and CS: GO, but it also sets another simultaneous player record on Steam for the most played single-player game. As SteamDB showed at the time, Cyberpunk 2077 with a peak of just over 1,000,000 active players on Steam puts you head and shoulders above Terraria, which held the previous record of 490,000 players, and Fallout 4 with 473,000 players.
