Steam Link client now available on the Mac App Store for macOS users

Almost two years after being released for iOS and tvOS, the official Steam Link client is finally available to Mac users through the Mac App Store. With Steam Link, Steam players can use a computer as a host to stream and play on any device.

In 2018, Steam Link was rejected on the App Store due to Apple guidelines that banned game streaming on iOS. However, as the app does not offer a stand-alone library and depends on a computer, the company allowed it on the App Store a year later, after working together with Valve on an update according to the store’s guidelines.

As noted by users in Reddit, Valve has now quietly released a macOS version of Steam Link. This means that Mac users can now install the app to stream Steam games from another computer, just as was already possible with the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

Steam Link was designed to take advantage of the power you already have in your home, streaming from your current gaming computer, mirroring your experience on your device. Video and audio data are sent from your computer to Steam Link, while input from the controller is sent in real time. Virtually all the games that your computer plays can be played on your device using Steam Link.

According to Valve, the app works best over an Ethernet or 5 GHz network connection and requires a Mac running macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later. Both computers must be connected to the same local network to run Steam Link.

Steam Link can be downloaded for free from the Mac App Store. For more information about Steam Link, visit Valve’s official website.
