State reports 83 more deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa Department of Public Health reported on Tuesday an additional 83 COVID-19-related deaths and a further 1,199 confirmed cases of the virus.

As of 10:30 am, a total of 298,065 Iowa residents tested positive for the virus and 4,222 Iowa residents have died from the virus since the pandemic began.

State data show that COVID-19 was the root cause of 3,861 reported deaths and contributed to 361 reported deaths.

A total of 258,746 people in Iowa have recovered from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

The state reported that 552 people are hospitalized with the virus. Another 62 patients were admitted to hospitals with the virus in the past 24 hours. There are 90 people in the ICU and 30 on ventilators. Fan use has continued to drop substantially in the state since it peaked at 155 people on fans on Nov. 24.

According to data provided by the state, 3,453 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. A total of 1,399,888 tests have been carried out since the pandemic began. According to these data, the positivity rate in the last 24 hours was 34.7 percent.
