State policeman shot in central Texas in critical condition; suspect in general

MEXIA, Texas (KWTX) – The state police officer shot outside Mexia, in Limestone County, on Friday night, is in critical condition and the suspect who shot the police officer is on the loose, according to Sergeant Ryan Howard of the DPS.

The shooting took place on Highway 84 around 8 pm, Howard said.

Howard did not identify the officer, but said the officer is being treated at Baylor Scott & White. Howard declined to clarify whether the policeman is at the hospital in Waco or Temple.

The Groesbeck Journal reports that the policeman was rushed to the hospital in Waco. The newspaper also reports that the suspect is a “black man dressed all in black”.

This information has not yet been officially confirmed by the authorities.

The video recorded at the scene shows a strong police presence and a helicopter hovering in the sky.
