Stardew Valley’s big local cooperative update has hit consoles

Stardew ValleyUpdate 1.5 delighted many of us when it was released for PC in December, and is now finally coming to consoles. The game developer announced on Twitter that the update should be released for Switch, Xbox and PlayStation “in the next few hours”. At the time this book was written, it was already available on the Nintendo Switch.

The most notable feature in the update is the local split-screen cooperative game, which looks absolutely perfect for consoles. Do I want to sit next to someone I love on the couch and build a farm together? Certainly, yes, and now we can.

The update also includes a new Advanced Options menu, new buildings, animals and enemies and, of course, a crop of bug fixes.

The complete changelog is available at Stardew Valleyfrom the website, and you can take a look at it yourself to see what changes excite you – we’re looking forward to chairs you can actually sit in, a menu guide that tells you if you talked to someone that day in the game, and a region entirely new with its own mission and characters.

When we covered this update for the first time, we called Stardew Valley our “game forever”, because many of us come back to play it whenever it’s updated. Despite the game’s popularity (it sold over 10 million copies), it still feels like a very personal project – just like my farm in the game, although I admit it’s a he bit less impressive.
