‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ begins production and adds five to the cast

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” is officially in production, Paramount Plus announced on Friday.

The announcement came in the form of a video featuring the protagonists of the series Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck, as well as members of the newly added series Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush and Melissa Navia. The full ad can be seen above.

“Strange New Worlds” is based on the years when Captain Christopher Pike (Mount) ran the USS Enterprise before Captain Kirk. Mount, Romijn and Peck made their first appearance in the “Star Trek” universe during the second season of “Star Trek: Discovery”. Romijn stars as the first number one officer, while Peck plays scientific officer Spock.

The series premiere was written by Akiva Goldsman with the story of Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. Kurtzman currently oversees the “Star Trek” franchise in his general contract with CBS Studios. Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers act as co-showrunners, with Goldsman directing the debut episode. Goldsman, Kurtzman and Lumet will serve as executive producers, in addition to Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper and Davy Perez will serve as executive co-producers. The series is produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group handles distribution.

“In a career, there is never enough work that is pure joy,” said Goldsman. “I feel that my friend Alex Kurtzman along with David Stapf at CBS Studios and Julie McNamara at Paramount + gave me just that, letting me haunt the stocks at my favorite candy store and I am grateful. With a hellish cast and undying love for the original series, we set out boldly. “

This is the last “Star Trek” series announced for Paramount Plus, formerly CBS All Access. “Strange New Worlds” joins a program of “Star Trek” programs that includes “Discovery”, “Picard” and the animated series “Lower Decks”. The animated series “Star Trek: Prodigy” is also scheduled to debut on the streamer.

“I am extremely grateful to work alongside Akiva and our brilliant, multifaceted cast to help bring Starship Enterprise adventures to a new life,” said Myers. “For someone who has been dreaming of spaceships and alien worlds since I was little, this show is a dream come true.”
