Stanly County Gymnastics competes in the Furman Classic – The Stanly News & Press

Stanly County (SCG) competitive women’s gymnastics team recently participated in their first competition of the season in Spartanburg, South Carolina, at the Furman Classic. The girls competed against several teams from North and South Carolina and won individual and team prizes

The competition gymnasts were evaluated at four Olympic events and received a score of 10. Each event score is added to the overall score of 40 possible. The three highest individual scores in each event are added to the team’s score.

Bronze level

Representing SCG in the Bronze divisions was Ella Bowers., Hadley Carter, Lily Daugherty, Mazie Eudy, Josie Gibson, Molly Harkey, Klover Hatley, Rory Holt, Khloe Kendall, Elle Lewis, Michelle Magana, Savanna Miller, Presley Moore, Cali Russell, Cora Russell, Lilly Todd, Emery Tucker and Carsyn Whitley.

Below are some highlights from the Bronze session.

Moore placed the beam first with a 9.7.

Gibson took first place in the jump with a 9.6.

Cora Russell positioned himself on the post first with a 9.6.

Bowers placed first on the ground with a 9.5.

In addition, Josie Gibson obtained the highest overall score of any age group in her session, at 37.9.

The SCG Bronze team took first place in the team competition with contributing scores from Bowers, Eudy, Gibson, Holt, Kendall, Lewis, Miller, Moore and Cora Russell.

Silver Level

Representing SCG in the silver division was Ella Aldridge, Isabella Cliffe, Avery Cooke, Ashley Deese, Kendall Eury, Jaquelin Ferrer, Donna Gould, Ashlin Horne, Avery Isenhour, Mikaela Little, Brianna Luong, Nicole Magana, Anna McLendon, Garrette Miller, Cherina Noel, Baylee Turner and Alise Wall.

Horne was placed first on the ground with a 9.8.

Gould placed the beam first with a 9.7. She also took first place in the other three events and in general.

McLendon was placed first on the post with a 9.6.

Turner placed the second on the beam with a 9.6.

In addition, Ashlin Horne obtained the highest overall score of any age group in his session, at 38.0.

The SCG Silver team took first place in the team competition, with contribution scores from Eury, Ferrer, Gould, Horne, Luong, McLendon and Turner.

Gold Division

Representing SCG in the Gold division was Maci Bailey, Elin Bowers, Lillian Carter, Marley Cox, Maddie Crump, Emily Deese, Journee Dunlap, Leslie Hatley, Blake Howell, Jade Huneycutt, Brooklyn Jarrell, Katelyn Kendall, Skylar Leathers, Ansley Leslie, Kenslie Little , Camdyn Plyler, Sophie Poplin, Trinity Robinson, Addison Wagoner and Maddy Rose Warner.

Little placed first on the beam with a 9.5.

Wagoner placed the second place on the beam with a 9.4 and the first place overall.

Plyler placed on the beam first with a 9.35.

Ansley Leslie was third on the post with a 9.3.

The SCG Gold team came in second in the team competition, contributing scores from Bowers, Crump, Huneycutt, Jarrell, Little, Plyler, Poplin and Wagoner.

Representing SCG in the Platinum division were Ella Cumming, Jatelynne Lee, Ellie Russell and Campbell Whitley.

Cumming placed first on the beam with a 9,475 and first all the way around with a 36.3.

Lee was first placed on the ground with a 9.55 and second overall with a 36.2.

Russell was first placed on the ground with a 9.45 and the first overall with a 36.3.

Whitley was third on the floor with a 9,025 and fifth overall with a 34,974.

The SCG Platinum team came in third in the team competition.

Representing SCG in the level 7 division were Sheridan Drew and Kayden Eudy.

Drew was third on the beam with a 9,425 and fourth with a 35,625.

Eudy was placed first on the beam with a 9.55 and first all the way around with a 36.3.

All SCG girls qualified for the North Carolina State Championship, exceeding the overall scores required at their respective levels.
