Stanford women’s basketball is defeated by Colorado when Buffaloes beat team # 1 for the first time

Stanford’s women’s basketball team, ranked first, lost for the first time this season on Sunday, dropping 77-72 in overtime in Colorado when the Buffaloes won their first win over a top ranking team.

This was the Buffaloes’ fifth victory in 26 meetings with Stanford and the first since Colorado became a member of Pac-12 in 2011-12. They were 0-16 previously against the Cardinal in the Pac-12 game.

The last time Colorado beat Stanford was on Sweet 16 in 2002, when the Buffaloes were still on Big 12.

Senior Mya Hollingshed led Colorado (6-6, 4-5 Pac-12) with 32 points, the best of her career, and 10 rebounds.

Lexie Hull had 19 points to lead Stanford (11-1, 8-1). Haley Jones, who lost the cardinal’s victory in Utah on Friday for an undisclosed reason, returned to the starting lineup and scored 16 points.

This was the second consecutive season that Stanford lost to a team not ranked No. 1.
