St. Johns County COVID-19 vaccination schedules

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Florida. – There are currently no hours available to receive the St. Johns County COVID-19 vaccine at present, local officials announced on Sunday.

Authorities said the remainder of St. Johns County’s initial limited vaccine quota is allocated to those on the waiting list compiled by the Department of Health, while the county awaits a second state vaccine shipment.

As soon as St. Johns County receives a new vaccine allocation, a registration system will be launched for residents to make an appointment to receive the first dose of the vaccine. Consultations will only be available to healthcare professionals and people aged 65 and over.

The announcement came after the county government stepped in to help the St. Johns County health department and take over the vaccine distribution logistics.

After several complaints of disorganization and long lines creating unsafe conditions in the municipality, the vaccine will be applied by appointment only in the municipality, starting on Monday. It is then that the vaccine will begin to be administered only by appointment at the Solomon Calhoun Community Center off State Road 207 in St. Augustine (1300 Duval St.).

County administrator Hunter Conrad said that when consultations begin, the first doses will be administered from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and second doses will be administered (by appointment only) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

For several days, the county health department offered COVID-19 vaccines on a first-come, first-served basis. This made hundreds of people desperate to queue the vaccine in their cars for miles at the department’s office in San Sebastian View, near US 1.

After many people camped in their cars at night to make sure they were in line, the health department on Saturday opted to distribute 600 armbands and send everyone away.

On Sunday – the last day of the first vaccination department to arrive, first to be served – 250 are to be vaccinated at the health department office. Deputies limited the queue overnight, so that only the first 250 in line would be guaranteed to receive the vaccine. All others were rejected. In addition, cars lined up in the parking lot of the county government complex, instead of the US 1.

“As agitated as it was, we now have a little peace of mind,” said Tim Willits, who arrived at 6 pm on Saturday, to News4Jax on Sunday.

Hbernhard Clever, who arrived at 5:30 pm on Saturday, said on Sunday: “I think the organization today was better than yesterday. It is simply amazing to see so many people who came wanting the photos. “

Conrad said the vacancies for Monday had already been filled by the 200 people on the waiting list at the health department. The health department said that once these people were vaccinated, it would be the end of the department’s initial 3,000 vaccine quota.
