Squirrels travel to South Carolina for Briar’s Creek Invitational

The University of Minnesota women’s golf team travels to Charleston, South Carolina, to compete at the Briar’s Creek Invitational from March 15 to 16. The two-day, 54-hole event will take place at The Golf Club in Briar’s Creek, a 6,110-yard par 72 course.

The lineup of Maroon and Gold includes the elderly Joanne Free and Grace Kellar in addition to sophomores Annabelle Ackroyd, Emma Carpenter and Grace Curran.

Maroon and Gold’s last action at the Florida State Match-up saw an eighth place for the team. Curran had the best career result and led the way for the Gophers by drawing sixth overall (76-72-73–221). Curran posted an eagle and a bird in the final round. Free (77-76-77-230) followed as the next best placed and drew 34th in his first tournament of the season.

Ackroyd (83-77-73–233) has consistently improved each round to end in a 44th tie. In the third round, she registered five birdies. Two strokes ago was Kellar who drew for 51st (83-78-74–235). Carpenter (77-83-76–236) completed the program with a T-53 finish.

Joining Minnesota and host College of Charleston in the 18-team event is Boston College, Campbell, East Carolina, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Miami (Florida), Michigan, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, NC, Ohio, Old Dominion, Penn State and UCF.

The competition starts on Monday, March 15 at 8:00 am CT with a shotgun start. The day will include 36 holes of continuous play.
