Square-Enix on how the pandemic delayed Bravely Default II in 2021

Bravely Default II is coming to Switch on February 26, 2021, but the game was originally planned to be released in 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic has led to a significant delay to the game. In an interview with Famitsu, Bravely Default II producer Masashi Takahashi went into detail about how the pandemic slowed things down. Check out his comments below, translated by NintendoEverything.

The overlap of development with the spread of the virus, combined with the fact that we were not sure how long things would last, had a big impact on things.

For example, progress in recording voice for foreign languages has been slow. We had to train the voice actors remotely, and they had to record in their own homes with no background noise and then send the audio back to us – everyone involved really did their best and we did it. We are a few months late, but we managed to do the voice work without too many problems.

However, both Square Enix and Claytechworks moved to working at home, so it took a long time to create home office environments. Even after we managed to get things going to a certain extent, we had some communication problems as it was the first time that we worked like this. It was a difficult decision to make, but given the situation, we delayed launching to February 2021.
