Spy Kids director Robert Rodriguez will relaunch the movie franchise

Skydance Media acquired ownership rights for a fifth film. Spyglass Media Group is also behind the restart.

Spy Kids creator Robert Rodriguez is partnering with Skydance Media and Spyglass Media Group to relaunch the family movie franchise.

Skydance Media has acquired the rights to reset the Spy Kids owned by IP Spyglass Media Group owner and Rodriguez, who will write and direct the next film in the franchise.

Spyglass owns and controls the Spy Kids franchise. Skydance will serve as a leading studio and oversee development and production.

And Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre of Spyglass will serve as executive producers.

Rodriguez released Spy Kids with the original film in 2001, followed by Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams in 2002, Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over a year later and Spy children: all the time in the world, who starred Jessica Alba and Jeremy Piven, in 2011.

The film franchise grossed more than $ 550 million at the worldwide box office.
