Spring, Texas: At least 6 CenterPoint Energy employees hospitalized after a natural gas explosion and fire

Company spokeswoman Olivia Koch told CNN that the incident occurred at Gleannloch Farms, near Spring, Texas.

According to a post to Twitter by the Harris County Fire Department Office, investigators were called in for “a possible gas and fire explosion” and, based on initial reports, it appeared that teams working in the area hit a natural gas pipe.

Authorities removed residents from the area and established a 150-meter perimeter around the site, according to another HCFMO post.

In addition to the wounded, at least one house was damaged by the fire, according to the marshal’s office.

Electrical service has also been disrupted for some 800 customers in the area due to damage to some electrical equipment, said Koch of Centerpoint.

CenterPoint Energy teams will begin repairs to restore service to natural gas and electricity customers affected by the incident as soon as the location is safe, she added.
