Spring ISD professor Joe Diaz probably dies of COVID-19, says the district

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) – An ISD spring teacher fell ill during the holidays and died, probably from COVID-19, according to a district statement.

Edwin M. Wells Middle School reported that Professor Joe Diaz died on Wednesday morning “after falling ill during winter break”.

The district issued the following statement:

“When speaking with Mr. Diaz’s family, we understand that his death was probably related to COVID-19. Mr. Diaz has worked at Spring ISD since 2017 and was a dedicated educator who worked diligently to ensure the success of all his students . His passing is a great loss for our school community and our thoughts and prayers are with his family. “

Wells Middle School has an enrollment of approximately 1,130 students from 6th to 8th grades. Diaz was a science teacher at the school, according to the Spring ISD website.
