Spotify updating home screens for iOS / Android apps with recently played, discovered podcasts and podcasts

Last year, Spotify brought a redesigned user interface to the home screens of its iOS and Android apps. Based on this design, Spotify today announced new features, including a section highlighting, personalized recommendations, “Recently Played” and new and unfinished podcasts.

Spotify detailed the latest redesign of its iOS and Android home screens in a post today.

Through this latest update, we will launch several advances in the mobile Home hub, designed to make it easier and more intuitive to find the audio you love. They will be released to users worldwide on iOS and Android this month.

Here are the three new title changes for the Spotify home screen:

  • Travel back in time: Rediscover lost jewelry in your listening history with a new “recently played” destination, where users can go back in time and browse through up to three months of listening history. Premium and Free users worldwide will be able to browse individual tracks and episodes recently played, as well as playlists, albums and programs from which they were played.
  • Skip to new and unfinished podcasts: Global Premium users can view new and relevant podcast episodes directly from the Home hub. New episodes will be marked with a blue dot and episodes that have already started will display a progress bar indicating how advanced you are in the episode.
  • Discover more music: Premium users worldwide will not miss a single track from the artists they love. Now, you’ll see a new surface highlighted at the top of the Home hub, dedicated to discovery-oriented recommendations that are personalized, timely and responsive to your taste.

Spotify did not share exactly when the new home screen design would reach users. But as we are closing in April, all users around the world are expected to see the changes this week or next.

It’s probably a server-side change, but it’s nice to stay up to date with the iOS / Android app. The latest version of iOS – 8.6.10 was released on March 19 (March 17 for Android).
