Spotify launches genre and mood filters to more easily classify your ‘Favorite Music’

Spotify started launching two new filters to make it easier to find and listen to your favorite music. Available for free and Premium subscribers, genre and mood filters offer up to 15 personalized options for classifying your “favorite songs” to get the vibe you’re looking for.

Spotify announced the new gender and mood filters in a blog post today.

Your “Favorite songs” on Spotify are a collection of you – covering all the genres you’ve ever liked and every mood you’ve experienced. Some days, you may want to play an entire eclectic mix, while on others, you are looking for a certain sensation.

Starting today, Spotify is launching a new way for our listeners to easily rate their collection of “Favorite songs” for each mood and moment through new genre and mood filters. With this new feature, listeners with at least 30 tracks in their collections will be able to filter their favorite songs into up to 15 custom humor and genre categories.

Spotify says that new filters for “Favorite Music” are being released starting today and will reach all users “in the coming weeks” on iOS and Android in “USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. ”

Here’s how to check if they are available to you (via Spotify):

  • Go to “Your library” and tap “Favorite songs”.
  • Then, tap one of the filters at the top of the playlist header to display all tracks that fit that mood or genre.
  • When you’re ready to switch to another climate or genre, just tap the “X” next to the genre or climate to disable the filter and return to your complete collection of “Favorite songs”.
