Tom Holland and Salma Hayek both have upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films – the Netherlands will appear in the MCU’s third entry Spider man series, while Hayek is part of the set of Chloé Zhaoin Eternals. Both films remain under strong lock and key to avoid spoilers, as is Marvel’s way. But in new interviews, both Holland and Hayek gave some clues about their respective films, with Holland calling Spider-Man 3 the “most ambitious autonomous superhero film ever made” and Hayek talking about how she found her role in Eternals “Enabler.”
Tom Holland in Spider-Man 3
The first thing first: I am really will need Marvel and Sony to announce the official title of their third Spider man movie soon because i’m tired of calling you Spider-Man 3. Yes, it is technically the third entry in the current Spider man series but we all know that there is already a Spider-Man 3, and it’s a movie that involves emo Peter Parker dancing like crazy. There can be only one.
Now that this is over, let’s take a look at Tom Holland’s last interview with Variety! Holland has had a lot of fun over the years, “accidentally” leaking information about his MCU projects, but he doesn’t reveal much about the new ones Spider man movie. However, he does exaggerating, going so far as to say “it is the most ambitious standalone superhero film ever made”. He continues:
“You sit down, read the script and see what they are trying to do and are succeeding. It is really impressive. I’ve never seen an independent superhero movie like this. And I’m just, you know, again, that lucky little shit who happens to be Spider-Man in it. We have a lot more footage to do. We started before Christmas and filmed for about seven weeks. We stopped for Christmas break and then started again. I am as excited as anyone to see him, let alone be a part of him. “
We still don’t have an official synopsis of what the new Spider man film is about, but we know that it should present the Multiverse – a setting that will allow the film to suggest previous versions of Spider man were defined in alternative dimensions. Jamie Foxx is back as Electro’s the incredible spider-man 2, and Alfred Molina is reprising his Spider-Man 2 paper like Doc Ock. And although there is no confirmation yet, there are rumors that previous Spideys Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will also appear in the film. And Holland’s comments about the film being ambitious certainly give credence to all the rumors. Now, if Marvel went ahead and announced the damn title …
Spider-Man 3 is scheduled to hit theaters in December 17, 2021.
Salma Hayek in Eternals
In a separate interview with Variety, Salma Hayek was asked about Eternals, the next Marvel movie by Chloe Zhao. Hayek plays a character called Ajax in the film, and the actress opened up about the film and the role. The actress said she was not allowed to see the script before committing to the role and, although she said it scared her, she was also all-in on the project because she wanted to work with Zhao.
“I love the director,” said Hayek. “She is brilliant. And then I like it [Ajax] he is a kind of leader. She is the only one who can speak to the Celestials. And I said, ‘I’m going to be bossy about that too. I can touch that. ‘By giving instructions, telling people what to do, I can do this. So I was afraid of the clothes. I am claustrophobic. I was too scared to feel that I couldn’t move. It has a completely different DNA than [other Marvel movies]. It is filmed differently from everyone else. It’s in real locations and they found some crazy extraterrestrial-looking locations. I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about what they do with the camera, but … it’s not mainly done in the mail. Cinematography is incredible. “
Hayek also called the experience “enabler”, adding:
“It really moved me. …They told me [early in Hayek’s career], “It will never happen to you here.” I am representing. It’s not because I’m wearing an outfit, but we have a right to be superheroes today. I’m 54 too. So there was something really moving, not just for me, but for everything, all the different stereotypes. She is not sexy. Do you know what I’m saying? She is not sexy at all. I’m very short. I was intimidated by being under my whole life. And suddenly, it doesn’t matter. You are a superhero in the Marvel universe. It moved me. “
Eternals, which follows “an immortal alien race created by the Celestials who secretly lived on Earth for more than 7,000 years”, is scheduled to open November 5, 2021.
