Specific batch of the modern vaccine COVID-19 put on hold in California after allergic reactions

(KGTV) – California health officials are halting the administration of a specific batch of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine after reports of possible allergic reactions.

In a statement, state epidemiologist Dr. Erica Pan recommended pausing batch 41L20A of the vaccine while officials investigate the reported reactions.

Pan said: “Our goal is to provide the COVID vaccine safely, quickly and fairly. A greater than normal number of possible allergic reactions has been reported with a specific batch of Moderna vaccine administered at a community vaccination clinic. Less than 10 individuals medical attention is required during the 24-hour period. For extreme caution and also recognizing the extremely limited supply of vaccine, we recommend that providers use another inventory of available vaccines and pause administration of vaccines from Lot 041L20A from Moderna until investigation by the CDC , FDA, Moderna and the state are complete. We will provide an update as we learn more. “

Although the state did not reveal the exact location from which the reactions were reported, six people reported allergic reactions after receiving the vaccine at the vaccine super station in Petco Park on January 14. The site was briefly closed after notifications, but has since reopened, as other batches of vaccines were available to be administered.

Between January 5 and 12, officials at the Department of Public Health said more than 330,000 doses of Moderna’s specific batch were distributed to 287 providers across California.

The batch break is in effect until an investigation conducted by the CDC, FDA, Moderna and state health officials is completed.
