SpaceX will try to ‘get’ its Super Heavy rocket using the launch tower

SpaceX may not rely on legs to launch its next generation booster rockets. Elon Musk has revealed that your company will try to “catch” the future Super Heavy booster using the launch tower arm, with the grid fins (used to help control the descent) supporting the load. Like TechCrunch explained, this process would effectively hook the rocket using the tower arm before it reaches the ground.

This would require very precise positioning, and there is still a long way to go when Super Heavy flight tests may not start until a few months from now, at the very least. If successful, however, the catch method can prevent SpaceX from adding heavy legs to your rocket. A truly precise maneuvering system can even shorten the turnaround time, allowing SpaceX to relaunch the rocket without having to move it from its landing position.
