South Stanly men compete in state finals 1A – The Stanly News & Press

South Stanly’s men’s cross-country team played Saturday the 1A state championship at Ivey Redmon Park in Kernersville.

South Stanly improved from 12th place in the state last season, finishing fifth overall in the state competition.

Davis Wright, a sophomore, was best placed for the Bulls earning All-State honors by finishing sixth overall in 17:29. Another sophomore student, Ranfere Garcia was second for South Stanly and 13th overall at 18:01, followed in the team by second Jayden Oliver (47-19: 08), freshman Josh Huneycutt (62-19: 57) and the second Mason Huneycutt (68º-20:12).

“This has been the most difficult group of boys I have ever worked with,” said coach Michael Curlee. “After arriving in the states last year, they realized the potential they had to do this again. This gave them an impulse to make an effort. They have a goal of winning in states until the last year … every day they come ready and willing to work hard.

Lincoln Charter won the state title with a low score of 55, followed by the Community School of Davidson (112), Murphy (116), Bishop McGuinness (127) and South Stanly (151).

Aaron Rovnak of Lincoln Charter won the individual state title ending in 16:47.
