The debut of South ParQ Vaccination Special in Comedy Central took a look at the current pandemic in a light that only this series can do. Through a system of plot points that seem more insane with the passing of the moments, this one-hour special has really managed to show a reality beyond the absurd. From the ridiculous beliefs of people in the QAnon conspiracy who believe that an insult is a secret message to the hardest part of maintaining patience in this pandemic, South Park does a decent job with the special.
The originality found in previous episodes is not lost when dealing with these topics and does not need to be lost. The absurd and crude beliefs of conspiracy theorists relate not only to the physical representations of the rebels, but also to the complicated explanations they offer, similar to real-life scenarios.
Starting with the return of Mr. Garrison as a villain who became a weird antihero, the possibilities of what could happen next were practically thrown into the air. The pleasant and hilarious surprises make South Park a comical staple in these times. It also makes it a definite source of chaotic entertainment that, in a strange way, helps viewers a lot. The image of Mr. Garrison coming to “save the day”, pulling a limp penis on a cart over a hill and calming his QAnon fanboys with an exciting speech is one of my favorite moments. The end of the celebration, along with a funeral, with many iconic characters from previous seasons of South Park, it was shocking and fantastic at the same time. In the end, this special showed viewers how an event like this can be insane in friendships, in daily life and in the susceptibility of what we choose to believe.
