South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt – Game review – January 30, 2021

NASHVILLE, Tennessee. – – Maxwell Evans hit five points out of 3 points and finished with 29 points – both season highs – and Scotty Pippen Jr. had 23 points and seven assists to help Vanderbilt beat South Carolina 93-81 on Saturday night to hit a streak of six consecutive defeats.

Evans came into play with 52 points scored this season.

It was the first time this season that two Vanderbilt players have scored at least 20 points. Dylan Disu scored 17 points, seven assists and a five-game steal for the best Commodores (5-8, 1-6 Southeast Conference).

Vanderbilt used a 20-2 run in a three-minute, 36-second interval to take the lead forever and make it 23-8 after Evans’ dunk with 13:55 remaining in the first half. Gamecocks went from 1 to 4 on the field, with five turnovers during that period.

AJ Lawson led South Carolina (4-6, 2-4) with 21 points. Keyshawn Bryant scored 13 points, Justin Minaya and Seventh Woods added 11 each, and Trae Hannibal scored 10.

Vanderbilt, who had lost their first seven conference games in each of the previous two seasons, scored the most points in a game this season. The Commodores, who led by double digits throughout the second half, tied the record for the season with 21 assists. hit 13 points out of 3 and beat South Carolina 22-9 on the free throw line.
