South Carolina vs. Tennessee: preview, scoring, live updates

12:48 pm, February 19, 2021

South Carolina’s dominance in painting took over in the second quarter to push its lead, 37-25. Most of Gamecocks’ offensive looks came from within with 24 points of paint.

After facing a dry run of goals in the first quarter, Aaliyah Boston managed to come alive with five points. However, it was Destanni Henderson in the transition and in the shooting range to help the Gamecocks push the lead. Henderson ended the semester with 10 points.

The Gamecocks have done an incredible job so far attacking the basket to find open tracks for the basket. The plate battle was also crucial in the SEC clash, beating Tennessee 24-18.

The South Carolina defense only allowed four Vols to score, which did not include Tennessee’s top scorer, Rennia Davis, who kicked 0 of 4 off the ground.

Rae Burrell

Rae Burrell came relentlessly in the first quarter, scoring Tennessee’s first eight points in the game. But the presence of Gamecocks in the painting with Aaliyah Boston and Victaria Saxton hampered Tennessee’s internal game. The pair in the painting was combined by two blocks.

However, Tennessee’s two-three defense put an emphasis on closing Boston. South Carolina’s top scorer was goalless in the first quarter. Destanni Henderson climbs to South Carolina with seven points.

It was a fierce first half among the ten biggest opponents, with 11 changes of advantage and seven draws. Ali Patberg’s relentless 3-point kick from Indiana helped Indiana take the 2-point lead in the locker room. Patberg is shooting 7 out of 13 beyond the arc and has dropped 17 points so far against the Wolverines.

Aleska Gulbe has also been an offensive threat beyond the arc, with two 3s, earning eight points for the Hoosiers. Michigan’s stifling defense left one of Indiana’s top scorers, Grace Berger, goalless in the first half. Michigan limited Berger to just four attempts from the ground.

Michigan’s Naz Hillmon did not miss a beat in the second quarter after missing out on most of the first due to early foul problems. Hillmon scored 10 points in the second quarter alone. She leads Michigan with 14 points.

We knew that the internal game would be crucial for both opponents of the Big Ten, with Naz Hillmon from Michigan facing Mackenzie Holmes from Indiana. Hillmon put his team into action with four points behind, but an attack attempt put Hillmon in trouble with two personal strikes in the first two minutes.

Despite Hillmon at the bank, Michigan chose to continue the momentum in painting to maintain the lead. The Wolverines ended the first quarter with 10 points of paint compared to the two in Indiana. That effort came from 15 offensive plates from Michigan and capitalizing on seven second chance points against the Hoosiers.

Hailey Brown has stepped up and led the Wolverines in the first quarter with six points so far.

No. 11 Michigan vs No. 14 Indiana

Both teams are currently scheduled for four regular season games until the start of the Big Ten tournament on March 9. With the squad on Monday less than a month away, the Wolverines are trying to get some classified wins to build their resume for the NCAA tournament. Michigan will have a tough week ahead of it, facing No. 14 Indiana tonight and No. 15 Ohio State on Sunday. But two victories against opponents classified as Big Ten can add to the curriculum. The selection committee has already included Indiana as seed number 4 in the first revelation of the first 16.

No. 2 South Carolina vs No. 21 Tennessee

In the SEC, South Carolina was considered seed number 1 and Tennessee was classified as seed number 4, for the time being, in the first look of the 16 best teams in the NCAA tournament. The SEC’s first 3 clashes could give the Vols a big boost in the ranking if Tennessee can beat the Gamecocks. As for Gamecocks, South Carolina will use its final four games to adjust its transition game, in addition to closing its fourth quarters after falling to NC State and UConn this season.
