Mississippi State Bulldogs and South Carolina Gamecocks meet Saturday in college basketball action at Colonial Life Arena.
The state of Mississippi is at 10-9 this year. The Bulldogs are 1-4 in their last five games and coming from a loss to Arkansas. As for South Carolina, it’s 5-6 this year. Mississippi began its 9-5 year with defeats to Clemson, Liberty, Dayton, Kentucky and Texas A&M. Since then, it has been a 1-4 period for Bulldogs. They beat Iowa and fell to Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas at that time.

In the 61-45 loss to the Razorbacks on Tuesday, Mississippi State’s only double-digit scorer was Tolu Smith with 10 points, five rebounds and an assist. DJ Stewart scored eight points with three rebounds and three assists in 36 minutes as well.
On the South Carolina side, the season started 3-2 with wins over Tulsa, Florida A&M and Texas A&M. After three defeats to LSU, Missouri and Auburn, the Gamecocks beat Georgia, lost to Vanderbilt and defeated Florida on Wednesday in their last game.
In Wednesday’s 72-66 win over the Gators, South Carolina’s AJ Lawson led the game with 22 points, eight rebounds and an assist. Seventh Woods had 12 points with four bags and one assist and Jermaine Cousinard had nine points with four bags and two assists.
Gamecocks are 1-4 ATS in their last five games after an ATS win and 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games. The balance is 20-7 in South Carolina’s last 27 games on Saturday and 7-0 in the last seven after an ATS victory.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing streak and 18-7 ATS in their last 25 games on Saturday. The state of Mississippi is 4-1 ATS in the last five after an ATS defeat and the over is 10-3 in the last 13 road games.
TO CHOOSE: I’m going to try to stab South Carolina here. Gamecocks have been quite impressive in the last three games, despite accumulating 93 points for Vanderbilt in defeat. South Carolina hit 45.6 percent of the ground in victory over Florida, pulling 43 rebounds as well. If the state of Mississippi starts to offend, this game will be very interesting, but I still like the Gamecocks to pull a cape. It must be a fun game.
