South Carolina vs. Florida game 2 recap: Main Gamecocks Gators 4-1, winning streak

After the five-hour marathon on Friday night, South Carolina and Florida finished about half that time on Saturday, with the Gamecocks pitch crossing almost all nine entries and the home team came out with a victory on the Serie.

The Gators were again the first at the table, having a 1-0 lead in the second inning in a double RBI by Kris Armstrong. That score was maintained for several entries, through the USC had several chances to break the shutout, but left the runners trapped several times. Then came the fifth inning, when Braylen Wimmer doubled, Josiah Sightler came out, and Wes Clarke went out into the yard to put USC 3-1. The final round of the game came in the eighth inning, after David Mendham came in first in a mistake and then scored courtesy of a George Callil fly.

Carolina starter Brannon Jordan had an excellent start, throwing seven entries and allowing only one run in five strokes, while walking just one hitter and hitting nine out. Brett Kerry played the other two entries and did not give up hitting, running or walking, while hitting three hitters. Jordan achieved the victory, making it 2-2, while Kerry made the defense, the second. Florida starter Jack Leftwich took the defeat and is now 4-1, and he also hit six hitters, after hitting just one before this game. Wimmer, Sightler, Clarke, Mendham and Colin Burgess each registered one hit, while Clarke led the Cocks with three RBIs.

The USC improves to 15-6 overall and 3-2 in the SEC, while the Gators are now 16-7 overall and 3-2 in conference games. Gamecocks will go to sweep on Sunday, with the first pitch set for noon at Founders Park.
