What to know
The South Carolina Gamecocks will be returning home after a two-game trip. The USC and Auburn Tigers will face off in a SEC battle at noon ET on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. These two teams enter the competition reinforced by victories in their previous games.
You will certainly get a positive result if you beat your opponent every quarter, and that is exactly how it happened for Gamecocks last week. They hurt the Vanderbilt Commodores with a 41-7 victory. The game was almost over by the end of the third, at which point the USC had established a 27-7 lead. RB Kevin Harris had a stellar game for USC by running for two TDs and 171 yards in 21 races. Harris took the lead with an 88-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, it was tough, but last week Auburn avoided the Arkansas Razorbacks for a 30-28 win. The overall result was to be expected, but Arkansas had more confrontation than the odds-makers had predicted. Tigers can attribute much of their success to QB Bo Nix, who passed a TD and 187 yards in 28 attempts, in addition to running for a TD and 30 yards, and RB Tank Bigsby, who took 146 yards on the ground in 20 loads.
Special teams collected 12 points for Auburn. K Anders Carlson kicked in three field goals, the longest of them 47 yards in the first quarter, which ended up being responsible for the difference in the match.
The victories brought Gamecocks to 1-2 and Auburn to 2-1 reciprocal. A couple of statistics to keep in mind while watching: USC ranks ninth in the country when it comes to interceptions launched, with only one in the season. Auburn is completely like them: they also enter the competition with a thrown interception. So expect both teams to feel comfortable throwing the ball out.
