South Carolina receives first doses of covid-19 vaccine

COLUMBIA (WOLO): In a tweet on Monday, Governor McMaster said, “We are witnessing American ingenuity at its best, while South Carolina receives its first shipment of the covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer BioNtech.

South Carolinians reaching a major milestone in the fight against the covid-19 on Monday … and for many, it means a light at the end of the tunnel.

“This vaccine will help us not to get as sick with covid-19 as we could.”

Of the nearly 200 to 300 thousand doses scheduled to be launched by the end of the year, 43 thousand should arrive by Wednesday, in the hands of frontline and high-risk health professionals.

Governor McMaster says, “the first phase called phase 1-A by the CDC to receive the vaccine will be workers or individuals in healthcare facilities who are most at risk of contracting covid-19.”

According to DHEC, those eligible for the Pfizer vaccine in phase 1-A will need two injections, with an interval of 21 days.

State epidemiologist Dr. Linda Bell says her main priority is saving lives, but Southern Carolinians must be patient.

By the end of the week, the vaccine will be distributed to 56 locations across the state.
