South Carolina rapper 18veno was shot dead in his home state on Sunday.
WCNC Charlotte reports that the 19-year-old rapper was pronounced dead at a hospital in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Since then, the York County Sheriff’s Department has opened an investigation into the incident. According to the media, he was killed inside a house on Rock Hill. When the police arrived at the scene, they allegedly discovered two teenagers injured by a firearm inside the house.
The first years of the 18-year life were spent in Washington DC, according to Pitchfork. He later moved to Winnsboro, South Carolina, where he started rapping in fourth grade. He was heavily influenced by Southern trap, pointing to rappers like Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti and Jeezy for inspiration. He soon started sharing his work, in 2020 seeing the arrival of his 5-track EP R4z and your debut project Pablo, both launched by the South Carolina label BoyMeetSpace. He enjoyed working with other artists from South Carolina, such as PG RA, who participated in the song “Cops & Robbers” from 18veno. He also collaborated frequently with South Carolina natives, jetsonmade and Neeko Baby.
Last July, 18veno appeared on the Pigeons & Planes Best New Artists list, which pointed to his songs “Fuck Rap” and “1942” – both produced by Neeko – as standout records for the R4z.
“I still don’t think we have the respect we need,” he told Lyrical Lemonade, about South Carolina artists. “We are not as we should be, yet. It depends on us right now – it depends on the artists that SC has now. I want to be one of those who help us to put ourselves on a world level. “
