A South Carolina principal got a third job working night shifts at Walmart to help his school, and he said the response from the community and the country inspired by his example “overwhelmed” him.
Principal Henry Darby of North Charleston High School, in addition to being a city councilman, works from 10 pm to 7 am, three nights a week, stocking shelves at a local Walmart and donating his work money to help students pay their bills, buy food, or pay tuition, as well as assist their teachers.
About 90 percent of families in Darby’s school live below the poverty line, reports Post & Courier.
“I was born and raised here and saw the need, and I tell people that people my age, who basically don’t ask for funds if we find a way to get the dollars ourselves, is what we would do,” Darby said “America Reports “” So when I saw the needs of my students and their parents, I decided not to ask anyone for money, just to take another job. “

Darby’s hard work attracted local and now national attention, and Walmart gave Darby a check for $ 50,000 to use at his school in recognition of his efforts. In addition, several GoFundMe pages have been launched to help Darby and his community. One has raised more than $ 100,000.
Darby said his students were surprised to find their director working at the retail giant.
“Some of them thought that this type of work was below me, but I tried to teach my students that all honest work is honorable,” he said.
As a result, some of them were inspired by his example and also got jobs at Walmart.
