South Carolina presents resolutions to limit seats in Congress

Washington DC – Several South Carolina lawmakers want to limit Congress’ mandate. House Concurrent Resolution 3663 (HCR 3663) and Senate Concurrent Resolution 363 (SCR 363) were introduced requesting a national convention to propose an amendment to the limits of Congressional mandates to the United States Constitution.

Senator Rex Rice (district 2) sponsored SCR 363 in the Senate Chamber. Representatives Jason Elliott (district 22), RJ May (district 88) and Cal Forrest (district 39) introduced HCR 3663 to the home in South Carolina. The effort is supported by US, non-partisan USTL (Mandate Limits) and non-profit.

According to Nick Tomboulides, Executive Director of the USTL, “There are two ways to propose an amendment to term limits: through the United States Congress or through states in a national convention. It is important that South Carolina lawmakers support these resolutions so that states can discuss the details of changing mandate limits. “

A 2020 poll conducted by Pulse Research shows that 78% of prospective voters in South Carolina want limits on congressional mandates, including strong partial support. 83% of Republicans, 71% of Democrats and 79% of independents are in favor of this important electoral reform.

Tomboulides observes: “It is clear that South Carolina rejects the political career model and wants to replace it with citizen leadership. They know that Congress will not set mandate limits for itself, so it is the obligation of the states to do so ”.

Both HCR 3663 and SCR 363 were assigned to judicial committees in the respective chambers. If passed by the House and Senate in this session, South Carolina will join Florida, Alabama and Missouri in the call to convene states at a national convention for the sole purpose of proposing term limits in the US Congress.
