South Carolina pharmacies sold out the Johnson and Johnson vaccine two weeks ago

FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) – On Thursday, we told you that people from South Carolina are not coming back for their second dose of Moderna or Pfizer.

They say that people prefer the Johnson and Johnson vaccine because it is a unique business, but on Friday, our vaccine team found that local pharmacies simply cannot meet demand.

The fight is not with many people coming to get the vaccine. It is the supply of the Department of Health and Environment. It’s all in the numbers.

South Carolina went from a large shipment of Johnson and Johnson to just an eighth of the first week’s shipment. This causes struggles for local pharmacies that are trying to vaccinate their communities.

“It is so impressive,” says Redec Pharamacy owner Dr. Hewis Bartels.

The wind chimes and telephones at Redec’s pharmacy ring with people coming in and calling to find out about the COVID-19 vaccine, but Bartels has none.
