COLOMBIA, SC (AP) – The state of South Carolina says it can execute a man with a scheduled death next week with a lethal dose of just one drug if the authorities fail to obtain the three drugs required by the procedure.

Inmate Richard Bernard Moore’s lawyers say they will continue to mount legal challenges before December 4, when Moore is due to be executed.

Moore spent nearly two decades on death row for his conviction in the 1999 murder of a convenience store clerk in Spartanburg.

South Carolina prison officials have been unable to secure lethal injection drugs since their last drugs expired in 2013.
